ABOUT ME

MY STORY

My Story

Born into a poor family I am the eldest of 3 siblings, we wear our heart on sleeves; hard workers and have always been told how down to earth we are. My Dad’s side is Russian and my Mum was Maltese and yes I have a Spanish surname! I am passionate about charity with the view to help others and hopefully bring more people together to care and love each other. I am someone who is driven by very strong work ethic and I’m a highly principled person.

My career has been varied from day one, I have always loved working with people, from hospitality, secretarial, property, beauty and in Media. I’m focused on learning and happy to roll up my sleeves.

What is important to me

  • Young Women today growing up don’t’ have many strong role models anymore, there is too much online that is creating young women too lose their own unique self and trying to look like Beyonce (or someone else trying to sell a record).  It’s so important to know we are all unique and beautiful just the way we are.
    1. I dream of creating events for Young Women, like the one I attended with Australis cosmetics in my late teens, helping young women to feel confident, body confident and empowering women to be strong and powerful with class and sophistication.
    2. As soon as we limit ourselves, we may achieve success but not fulfilment, because we aren’t living our truth
    3. Nobody can tell you what’s authentic for you. I believe it is all about confidence. Be comfortable in your own skin. Don’t lose your identity being someone you’re not. If I get too fake, I will lose people- If I get too skinny- I will lose who I am.

Helping others

  • I spend most of my weekends doing charity work, through my work as an ambassador for UN Women’s Council, to SANDS, Very Special Kids, Safe Steps, Big Umbrella Foundation, Keep Melbourne Warm, Bully Zero & Ronald McDonald House. I am also a Domestic Violence Advocate.
  • Ending and preventing homelessness is high on my list for helping others. Homelessness results in significant social and economic costs not just to individuals and families, but also communities and we as a nation have a responsibility – to step up and care.
  • I would also like to be a Role model for empowering young women to be the best they can be.
  • I was delighted to celebrate the passing of same-sex marriage laws. The legal definition of marriage in the Marriage Act 1961 has been changed from being a “union of a man and a woman” to a “union of two people”. Simply Fabulous.

Grounding

I grew up in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne, my parents had done everything they could to give me and my two brothers a carefree childhood, despite the fact that we lived through financial hardship. It was through this adversity that I learned to appreciate and value life itself; love, self-respect and to be the best you can be in everything you put your mind to.

From the tender age of 19, I was using the lessons taught by my mother to help earn money for my struggling family of three siblings. I witnessed experiences of domestic violence fueled by arguments about money and being unable to buy food, or pay for bills. After the passing of my late mother, I somehow found the will and the inspiration to turn all that bleakness into magic.

Beauty and looking after yourself

  • I believe strong women are all resilient, and this is key to my life.
  • I am keen to help women find their voice on my radio program, ‘ in their shoes’ at SEN CLASSIC ROCK FM and now I get to do this on my website. I love to interview people and focus on their story and through this help others to understand the challenges we all face in our community.
  • I will continue with my life journey to talk to people, uncover their stories so I can empower women to be the best they can be.
  • I absolutely love to help people do makeovers –  Trinny and Susannah style
